For what it’s worth March – New LCV Registrations The downward trend in new LCV registrations seems set to continue according to the latest figures from the SMMT. At 51,221, new registrations were down by around 3.2% (1,695) compared to March 2024. In the first quarter of this year, registrations were down by 10,065 compared to the same period last year. For what it’s worth February – New LCV Registrations According to the latest SMMT report, there were 14,476 new LCVs registered in January. That’s around 24% (3,458) fewer than were registered in February 2024. Currently we are seeing a downward trend in new LCV registrations, however, there will have been a surge of registrations on the new March plate. This monthly overview presents an update on the current state of the new and used car markets in the UK. We will bereporting on new car registrations up to the end of February 2025, as well as the latest activity in the used car market as of the date of this writing. Please note that all information is accurate as of March 25th, 2025. New car sales According to data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), a total of 84,054 cars were registered in February 2025. This represents a decrease of 1%, equating to 832 fewer units compared to the samemonth in 2024. Typically regarded as the smallest month of the year, accounting for approximately 4% of annualvolumes, February marked the fifth consecutive month of decline in car registrations, a trend that has beensignificantly influenced by the introduction of the Vehicle Emissions Trading Scheme (VETS). For what it’s worth January New LCV Registrations According to the latest SMMT report, there were 19,050 new LCVs registered in January. That’s -30% (8,171) fewer than were registered in December. We have come to expect January registrations to be significantly lower than December. The only exception was January 2023 when there was a marginal increase of 1.3% (+273).
