The cap hpi keeper enquiry service is available to Finance, Insurance and Legal businesses only. Given the sensitive nature of the details that are provided, there are strict rules and criteria, set by the DVLA on which businesses are permitted to access this information.

cap hpi has been authorised by DVLA to act on behalf of our customers to submit requests to DVLA. cap hpi is only allowed to offer this service to businesses that have been ‘pre-approved’ by DVLA to access this information*. If you would like to begin this process of pre-approval please complete your details below.

The permitted purposes vary dependent on your sector. Reasonable causes for Lenders are:

  • A Lender’s customer being in breach of their agreement.
  • A Lender’s customer being in default
  • A Lender’s customer being suspected of fraud
  • A known change of keeper

Reasonable causes for Insurers are:

  • To investigate road traffic incidents
  • Vehicle related claims
  • Suspected insurance fraud

DVLA considers this an aid to satisfy reasonable cause.

Where data is available on the DVLA system the password-protected response is provided the next working day and provides the following:

  • Registered keeper name and address
  • Date of Last Keeper Change
  • Date of 1st Registration
