This update reviews the latest position of the UK new and used car markets, combining new car registration data through June 2026 with an overview of current conditions in the used vehicle sector. All observations and commentary reflect the market outlook as of 27th July 2026.

New car sales

June delivered another positive month for the new car market, with registrations increasing by 11.4% year-on-year to 213,166 units. The latest figures published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) make it the strongest June performance since 2019 and continues the positive momentum seen throughout much of the first half of 2026.
